lle furtou da esmolneira por crecer en sas requezas.


Outro día de mannãa, des que as missas oíron,
os que alí albergaron da eigreja se saíron;
mas el ên saír non pode, e esto muitos o viron,
ca non quis Santa María, que é con Déus nas altezas,

atá que ben repentido foss' e ben mãefestado
e todo quanto furtara ouvéss' ao outro dado,
e que disséss' ante todos| de com' avía errado, e saíss' ên con vergonna | por sas maas astruguezas.

Tod' aquest' assí foi feito, ca o quis a verdadeira
Madre de Déus pïadosa, santa e mui justiceira,
que non quis que en sa casa fossen per nulla maneira
feitas cousas desguisadas nen cobiíças per pobrezas.


The Mother of Jesus Christ,Lady of noble qualities
will not suffer that anyone will commit robbery
or vile deeds in Her house

Concerning this,I will will tell you of a very great miracle
which men of good character vowed and proved to be true,
which Holy Mary of Monserrat performed.
They told me what a base man did to show his baseness.

This man with many other people came there on a pilgrimage.
He took up with a man and became his companion.
When night came he stole the money the man was carrying
from his alms purse to add to his own wealth.


The next morning,as soon as they heard mass,
those who had spent the night there went out of the church
However he could not go out,and many people saw this
For Holy Mary,who sits on high with God,wouldn’t allow it
until he had sincerely repented and fully confessed
and had given back all he had stolen to the other man
and declared before everyone how he had sinned
and was ashamed because of his ill-fated deeds

All this was duly done because the true and merciful Mother of God,
Holy and just,so willed,for She she would not permit that unseemly acts
nor petty greed be committed in her house in any way.
